As we look back on the 2023 Buffalo Niagara Laban Laro, it’s with a sense of immense pride and joy. This year’s event, held with the participation of six esteemed schools – Pride Martial Arts, MSD Kenpo, T&K Martial Arts, Horizon Martial Arts, Master Biesik’s Martial Arts, and Ben Aldridge’s International Black Belt Studio – was nothing short of spectacular.
The tournament showcased an exhilarating array of martial arts forms, including weapon and hand forms, point fighting, and stick fighting. These events captivated not only the participants but also the enthusiastic spectators, who cheered on their children and classmates. The energy and excitement were palpable, especially for those attending their first-ever tournament, leaving them inspired and eager to join future competitions.
A highlight of the event was the presence of Master Ron Cain, representing MAT Action, which has now become the official software for the Western New York combat league. This marks a significant milestone in the evolution of our tournament and the martial arts community in our region.
I am particularly proud of all members of our school, both seasoned competitors and first-timers. Their commitment, skill, and sportsmanship – evident in how they handle victories, losses, and draws – set a remarkable example for everyone. Their hard work paid off, as reflected in the impressive results, with every team member placing in the top three in various categories.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in making this tournament a success – the competitors, the organizers, the parents for their unwavering support, and all who lent a helping hand. Your contributions have made a lasting impact.
As we look forward to 2024, we’re excited about the new opportunities and experiences that await us. The upcoming season promises to bring fresh challenges and triumphs, and we can’t wait to see what our students and the wider martial arts community will achieve.
Here’s to a future filled with more such inspiring moments and continued growth in martial arts!
Respectfully, Datu Tim Hartman Horizon Martial Arts
